Position Overview
We are seeking a Data Governance Engineer to help modernize and automate enterprise data governance initiatives. This individual will combine expertise in software engineering, data engineering, automation, and AI to build scalable governance solutions that improve data quality, metadata management, and overall data reliability.
This role will partner with technical teams and business stakeholders to develop automated governance processes, implement modern data management practices, and help establish a trusted data environment across the organization.

We are seeking a Data Governance Engineer to help modernize and automate enterprise data governance initiatives. This individual will combine expertise in software engineering, data engineering, automation, and AI to build scalable governance solutions that improve data quality, metadata management, and overall data reliability.
This role will partner with technical teams and business stakeholders to develop automated governance processes, implement modern data management practices, and help establish a trusted data environment across the organization.
Key Responsibilities Data Governance & Automation
- Design and develop automated data governance solutions using AI, APIs, and modern engineering practices.
- Integrate governance controls into data pipelines to improve data quality, compliance, and consistency.
- Develop policy-as-code solutions utilizing version control, testing, and deployment best practices.
- Build and maintain metadata management processes to improve data cataloging, lineage, and discoverability.
- Enhance enterprise data catalog capabilities through automated metadata collection and management.
- Develop automated data quality monitoring, validation, and alerting processes.
- Implement controls to identify anomalies, data drift, and other quality issues.
- Recommend improvements to data quality tools and governance processes.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to enhance governance capabilities across cloud-based data platforms.
- Support enterprise data management tools, including data catalogs, data quality, and master data management (MDM) solutions.
- Assist in evaluating technologies that support long-term data strategy.
- Work closely with technical teams, business users, data owners, and governance stakeholders.
- Help establish governance standards, documentation, and best practices.
- Promote data stewardship and enterprise-wide adoption of governance processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a technical data management role.
- Experience developing and deploying production software solutions.
- Strong programming skills with:
- Python
- SQL
- REST APIs
- Git/GitHub
- Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices
- Experience working with modern cloud data platforms such as:
- Microsoft Fabric
- Snowflake
- Databricks
- Data lakehouse or enterprise data warehouse environments
- Experience implementing automated data quality, monitoring, and validation frameworks.
- Knowledge of metadata management, data cataloging, and data lineage concepts.
- Familiarity with Master Data Management (MDM) principles and enterprise data governance.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across both technical and business teams.
- Experience with AI-enabled development or automation, including Large Language Models (LLMs), AI coding tools, APIs, or Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Experience with enterprise data catalog platforms such as Atlan or data.world.
- Experience supporting MDM platforms.
- Background implementing data governance programs within large or complex organizations.
- Understanding of data security, regulatory compliance, and risk management principles.
